There’s nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread!
For years people have asked me for my banana bread recipe, but it wasn’t mine to give! This recipe is passed down from my own mother and she has held it a secret for as long as I know (except for us kids!). Over the holidays I asked again and she finally released it for sharing! So from my family kitchen to yours- here is classic, foolproof banana bread!
In a small bowl put dry ingredients together (flour, salt and baking soda). Set aside. In large bowl mix together mashed bananas and sugar. You of course want to make sure your bananas are completely brown for the best result in texture and flavor. Add softened butter, vanilla and egg. Stir until combined, then sift in dry ingredients. Mix well. I always recommend using a kitchen aid or kitchen aid mixer (personal preference) rather than trying to use just a spatula by hand. Those bananas can be pretty chunky!
At this point you can add in any little extras you would like, such as nuts or chocolate chips. Pour batter in to greased and floured bread pan. Smooth the top as much as possible.
Top with bananas if you would like! I also recommend checking out my loaded topping on my gluten free banana bread recipe if you want more ideas! Of course this is all optional.
Bake at 350F for 50 minutes. Make sure it is cooked all the way through by checking with a toothpick before removing! Let cool 10 minutes before serving.

Notes
I never make this without my kitchen aid! It makes mixing up the bananas a breeze. I love the mint color of mine!
This classic homemade banana bread recipe is moist, flavorful and guaranteed to be made again and again! Delicious as is in my opinion, but if you want to a plain slice I like to top mine with cream cheese or peanut butter sometimes! Let me know what you think, and if you make it tag me in your photos!
This looks delicious !
