Whole Wheat Drop Biscuits

Healthier homemade biscuits in under 30 minutes!

When you make your own biscuits you can choose whole wheat to make them healthier! I am not very great at baking bread. It’s usually a fail, even in the bread maker at times, so anything that involves kneading is out for me. Biscuits scared me until my best friend made drop biscuits for us one morning and I realized they are totally doable!

Whole Wheat Drop Biscuits recipe

For these whole wheat biscuits you need both whole wheat and all purpose flour. Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl. In a separate bowl combine the buttermilk with the melted butter. Make sure the milk is of course cold, and that the butter is not too hot. Pour the wet ingredients in to the other bowl and stir until it forms a dough.

I threw away my old hand mixer when I got my KitchenAid but I definitely have this one on my list!

Drop balls of dough on to a greased baking sheet. These are not meant to look pretty, but man do they taste good! You could try to form them if you want, but that takes the fun out of ‘drop’ biscuits!

Bake at 475F for 12-14 minutes. The tops should be turning golden brown when they are done and can be removed from the oven.

I will admit that I have made these drop biscuits both with buttermilk and with just regular milk when I didn’t have any on hand. Either way you still get a buttery biscuit! These aren’t too dense, too gooey, or too crumbly- they are just perfect! What makes them even better is how quick they can be put together and in your mouth!

Whole Wheat Drop Biscuits recipe from Body Compass Discovery's blog

My guy is a huge fan of biscuits on a weekend morning, and he always wants the flaky kind right out of a can. I made this recipe when I didn’t have any on hand and I will say that he didn’t just tolerate it- he commented on how much he liked them…. twice!

These turned out wonderful! Did everything exact to the recipe, aside from pouring some warm bacon grease into the 9×9 dish, turning each biscuit once in the grease before baking. Truly easy and delicious biscuits! Thanks!
