Cinnamon Apple Glazed Almond Donuts

Healthy donuts? Yes, it’s true!

I have been wanting a donut pan for months and for some reason couldn’t get a hold of one. Every time I went to the store they were sold out, every time I tried to order online it was discontinued. Finally I was able to purchase one and the next step was just deciding what type of donuts to make first! I had so many ideas saved on Pinterest and Instagram and finally landed on making some almond donuts with applesauce glaze. The recipe for almond flour donuts came from Southern in Law’s blog and the applesauce glaze from The Weary Chef’s blog.

If you are like me and have taken way too long to add one of these to your kitchen, here you go! It will revolutionize the way you see donuts once you start making your own.

Start by mixing the eggs, vanilla, honey, almond flour and baking soda together in a bowl and then pour into greased donut pan. You should only fill it about halfway with the batter.

Bake at 300F for 10-15 minutes. Let cool completely before removing from the tin. In this time you can make the glaze!

In a small bowl whisk the powdered sugar, cinnamon, applesauce and water together. Start with one teaspoon at a time of the water, just until it thickens up to a nice glaze. Dip the donuts in to the glaze and then set on parchment. Allow some time for the glaze to set in before eating (at least 10 minutes).

I paired them with some pumpkin mini muffins and used the same glaze since I had a little leftover. The recipe for these came from Deliciously Declassified’s blog but I used gluten free baking flour for mine and only 3/4 cup of brown sugar instead.

I couldn’t believe how simple it was to make donuts at home! For the first try these were extremely successful and a great pairing of flavors.
