Smoothies are such an important start to my day! This is mostly because I’m a terrible snoozer and don’t make time for breakfast in the mornings…. but also due to the fact that you can pack so many nutrients into them.
This particular smoothie is energizing and provides good health benefits with a refreshing, tropical taste. I am a big believer in add-ins for smoothies. Getting your daily fruit intake is a plus of course, but that little extra can make a huge difference for you! I chose hemp oil, maca and matcha powder as my add-ins. Hemp and maca are full of vitamins, minerals and protein. They also both help balance your hormones, which is a great perk! Maca is a wonderful way to get a natural boost of energy too. While matcha is mainly used for energy, it also increases your metabolism to help burn fat.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with matcha, it is powdered green tea. This makes it a more potent form of caffeine than just drinking steeped tea and is more comparable to the effects of coffee. The best part about matcha being an alternative to coffee is there is no familiar crash afterwards, but rather a steady uplift throughout the day. It’s a fantastic addition to any morning smoothie!
You will need greek yogurt (I used a coconut flavor), pineapple chunks, a banana, hemp oil, matcha powder, maca powder and green juice (the one featured here is Tropicana brand). I also throw in some ice cubes when I blend my smoothies.
This is a great one for those mornings when you need a little extra boost besides coffee! If you don’t want to use a store bought green juice and have access to a juicer for something homemade that would be a great alternative.
