Barbecue Pecan Salmon

This sweet and savory salmon with pecans really sets the bar high for future fish recipes!

Living in Texas I should be a fanatical about barbecue, but it’s hardly ever my first choice- until I made this. I always enjoy barbecue flavor, sauce and rubs when I eat them though so it never disappoints. I will definitely admit that it is not something I would have thought to pair with fish right away. However, I decided to try it the other night when searching for a new way to cook salmon.

Barbecue Pecan Salmon Recipe

The idea came from Mother Rimmy’s post and I adapted it slightly (I chose to not use lemon or breadcrumbs in mine). I am really glad I stumbled upon her recipe because this is by far my favorite way to make salmon! It looked wonderful so it’s definitely a great presentation meal if you have guests, and the combination of flavors is simple perfection. It pairs a crunchy topping with a savory glaze, which keeps the fish moist. To top it off, who doesn’t love quick and easy recipes with five ingredients or less?

For the barbecue sauce I chose Franklin because it’s local. I had the Espresso flavor on hand since we are coffee lovers, and it was a wonderful selection since it’s actually very subtle. I know you can buy it in stores around here, but I’m not quite sure if you can get it elsewhere. I bet any type of barbecue sauce you choose will turn out delicious though!

First lay out your salmon filet on a foiled baking pan. You will need honey (I use local) and barbecue sauce of your choice for the glaze. Coat the top of the salmon and then crumble the pecans over the fish.

If you buy whole pecans and need to make the pieces yourself a mortar and pestle works great for this! I find my nut chopper can be a little too much so doing it by hand is better for the right size nut chunks.

Preheat the oven to 350 and when ready bake the salmon for about 20 minutes. Remove when done and then enjoy the sweet-smoky crusted fish!

Ingredients

  • 1 salmon filet
  • 2 tbsp bbq sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp pecans chopped

Instructions

  • Place salmon filet on baking pan with foil. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Pour the bbq sauce over the fish, then drizzle with the honey.
  • Chop up the pecans and top off the fish until it is fully covered.
  • Place in the oven and cook for 20 minutes. Remove when done and serve!

Notes

I broil fish often, but make sure you BAKE this- otherwise you will burn all of the pecans!

I have made salmon twice since this recipe and both times I thought about this one after taste-testing, so I definitely recommend cooking this next time you are craving fish! Indulge a little and give your body some healthy fats!
