Don’t Lose Yourself

We all have days where we are more down than others, but it’s when this mood turns into a weekly or monthly pattern that it starts to take a major toll on you. It’s therapeutic to vent, but when all we can focus on or talk about is our hardships it starts to affect us and become part of who we are. There are ways to break free from this even if life is still throwing curve balls at you. You may not be able to control everything that happens to you, but you can control whether or not you let your problems run your life!

Life can have so many downfalls, so many unexpected twists. It could be that you were really building up some good news that you never received, everything just starts to fall apart or you seem to have constant bad luck. Perhaps your year doesn’t start off right or over and over again things just don’t seem to be going the way you want them to. When you set expectations for your future it can be maddening to be thrown unexpectedly off course, especially more than once after you keep trying to right yourself. What puts us in the negative streak is not so much every obstacle that is happening, but our THOUGHTS that we can never seem to catch that break in life. We choose to be overwhelmed. Once you realize that you can have a different outlook despite all that is going against you.
This is common and something everyone experiences, it’s just a matter of how deeply. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom and experience the worst hardship to realize that you never want to feel that way again. That in itself can fuel you to make a conscious effort to turn your life around. Just because we come out of something doesn’t mean the rest of life will be a smooth ride. It just means we are more prepared for how to handle the unknown ahead of us.
overcome a negative life cycle
3 STEPS TO OVERCOME THE EFFECTS OF A NEGATIVE LIFE CYCLE:
  • Allow yourself to truly feel what you are going through. This is crucial. When we ignore our emotions we create build up, but by giving ourselves the chance to feel what we are trying to suppress we avoid the inevitable breaking point. Giving in to what we are fighting is healing. When we stop refusing to do so we can finally move on from it.
  • Make a point to talk about the good in your life. Even if you feel like you have nothing going for you at this very moment, you do! When we are in a downward spiral it’s because we continue to let the negative outweigh the positive. Find something you are grateful for and voice that instead. When we only ever discuss our problems we create a constant cloud of negativity around ourselves. Try every day to discuss your joys rather than your burdens. Don’t allow yourself to take what is good in your life for granted just because there are other frustrations you are going through.
  • Continue positive thinking regardless of what is happening. Your mind is a powerful tool. If you are able to react or think differently about a situation then you have taken back your power and you can literally turn things around for yourself. You have to fall low in order to bounce higher. The circumstances around you may not be ideal, but if you can adjust your attitude towards what’s going on it can transform the situation entirely.
Trying to be conscious of taking these steps as often as possible can help to pull you out of that negative cycle. You can choose to be happy or you can choose to be miserable, the amount of effort is the same!

I completely believe in this. It can be very difficult, but I think it’s so important to be acknowledge reality, but then to also focus on the positive. I am working on being more intentional in the way that I live everyday. Thanks for posting, I really appreciated reading it! 🙂

Definitely! It’s sometimes hard to realize you are doing it in the moment but once you are aware it can become just as easy of a habit to be positive. You are on the right path, stick with it!

I agree completely! Loved this post!!
I try hard to focus on the positive even when everything else seems to be going wrong. The best outlook in life is one based on positivism!
